Introduction

Theories on the strategies that translators employ are wide-ranging, though there is a general consensus that the process of choosing how to render a word or phrase in the TL can be sub-divided into different stages, or perspectives: the pre-translation phase; a global or holistic approach to the task; and specific strategies to deal with the challenges as they arise in the translation process. M. Ordudari (referencing R. Jaaskelainen’s “Translation studies: what are they?” 2005, www.hum.expertise.workshop in “Translation procedures, strategies and methods”, Translation Journal Vol. II, no. 3, 2007) describes two orders of strategy:
